Winter Warmers - Meet The Cold Weather Collection

As the weather cools down, our shower temperatures heat up and our skin gets itchy and dry. It's a common misconception that soap is responsible for drying our skin over Winter but really, it's more to do with twisting the hot tap to the maximum and defrosting our frozen skin in the shower for as long as possible than the soap. Handmade soap retains all of the naturally produced Glycerin which acts as a humectant, attracting and keeping moisture in your skin for longer. This, along with nourishing and moisturising plant oils and butters makes for a soothing, non-drying soap. Mass-produced and usually very cheap soap is not made with many plant oils or butters at all (if any) and...

Best Witch Shops in Australia

It's absolutely no secret that Sailor Mouth Soaps has a preference for all things witchy so you probably won't be surprised to see a roundup of my favourite witch shops in Australia. Support charities - with soap!

Handmade soap is already awesome in so many ways. How could we even improve upon that? By making it charitable, of course. If you've been with me since the beginning, you might remember the famous "Paw Soap" where a large chunk of the proceeds was donated to various grassroots animal charities throughout the year. We even used to offer the paw soaps in the charities colours for fundraising purposes, available at a steep discount for raffles and prizes for fundraising activities. Let me know if that's something you'd like to get in on! This year, I would love, love, love to make a donation prior to the end of the financial year (30th June) but sadly sales of these soaps...

Ingredient Spotlight - Avocado Oil

Not only is a Smashed Avocado (preferably on toast) beneficial for your health, Avocado Oil can also provide a who host of nutrients for your skin. High in monosaturated fat, it is packed full of vitamins and minerals, namely Vitamin A, B, D and E. Unlike Mango Butter, where the butter is extracted from the seed, Avocado Oil comes from the actual fruit, or pulp, if that's easier to visualise.  Avocado Oil can be used in many leave-on and rinse off cosmetics and while it's mainly recommended for dry, ageing and mature skin, in a soap, the results are absolutely divine.  Avocado Oil in soap creates a silky, creamy lather and helps to condition the skin, while also lending bar-hardening...

Essential Podcasts for Handmade Business Owners

When you're a small, independent maker, it can be a challenge to find resources created with handmade products in mind. So many business books and online education assume that you want to be the next Jeff Bezos (no thanks!) or that you come armed with a business degree, or similar skill set. That can be alienating for handmade crafters like us when we intend to be, or at least start out as, sole traders and if you don't know what indie/craft/handmade resources are out there, it can get overwhelming, fast! How do you create a business plan? What about budgets? Should you sell on an online marketplace like Etsy or have your own website? How do I start an email...
